Panasonic 4585 is a COM loop repeater that allows the loop of an addressable fire alarm system to be extended further than the control panel’s own loop would allow. The repeater amplifies the loop signal and forms a sub-loop (SUB-loop) from it, with a maximum length of 1,100 m when the conductor resistance of the cable is 24 Ω/km. Standard addressable COM loop devices are connected to the sub-loop.

The repeater is a circuit board installed inside the 4466 external power supply. One power supply can hold two repeaters. The repeater receives its 24 V DC operating voltage from the power supply, and up to 350 mA of current is available for the sub-loop. The repeater has no short-circuit isolator of its own; instead, the COM loop is protected by the short-circuit isolator of the 4466 power supply. The repeater monitors the sub-loop and reports open circuits, short circuits, undervoltage and internal faults to the control panel.

Installation and compatibility

The repeater works with the EBL512 G3 control panel (software version 2.5 or later) in Advanced mode. The address is set automatically via the 4466 power supply: the repeater is given the power supply address +1 or +2, depending on which output it is connected to. The sub-loop is connected to screw terminals that accept conductors of Ø 0.65–1.6 mm (0.33–2 mm²). If no devices are connected to the repeater, the sub-loop must be closed. The repeater is intended for dry indoor areas.
