Fire safety in a building in use
Under the Rescue Act, a building’s fire detection and alarm devices and other safety equipment must be kept in working order and appropriately maintained and inspected. In practice, this means a maintenance programme, maintenance in line with the maintenance instructions and documented work.
Maintenance programme
We compile the programme from the maintenance instructions for the equipment and systems, so that maintenance tasks and their timing are clear. Read about maintenance and servicing.
Fire alarm system log book
Maintenance and upkeep work on a fire alarm system is recorded (Ministry of the Interior Decree 976/2024). The article The fire alarm system log book explains what the entries should contain.

We prepare rescue plans and organise evacuation drills. See rescue plans.
Housing companies and smoke alarm responsibility
On 1 January 2026, responsibility for acquiring and maintaining smoke alarms moved from residents to housing companies. For housing companies, we offer centralised smoke alarm systems in which a central unit monitors the condition of the detectors in the flats. A housing company’s obligations are set out in the smoke alarm guide. Read more about our services for housing companies as well.
A new system or an extension
When a system is replaced or extended, we provide the plans, equipment, installation and commissioning. A statutory fire alarm system undergoes a verification inspection before it is taken into use and after significant changes; the inspection is carried out by an inspection body approved by Tukes.

Frequently asked questions
How often is a fire alarm system maintained?
Maintenance intervals are based on the maintenance instructions for the equipment and systems, and the same interval does not apply to every system. The periodic inspection of a statutory fire alarm system is carried out every three years.
What should you check in a maintenance agreement?
In addition to the price, find out which systems the agreement covers and how fault repairs and documentation are handled. The points to check are collected in the article What should you find out about a fire alarm system maintenance agreement?
