Panasonic 2841 intrinsically safe analogue heat detector

Panasonic 2841 is an intrinsically safe (IS) addressable analogue heat detector installed in potentially explosive atmospheres in zones 0, 1 and 2. The detector works like the analogue heat detector 3308/3309: the temperature is measured with a thermistor, and a fire alarm is indicated by the detector’s LED.

One of three alarm algorithms in accordance with EN 54-5 is selected for the detector in EBLWin: class A1 (alarm at 56 °C, or as early as 46 °C with a rapid rise in temperature), A2S (60 °C) or BS (74 °C). The detector operates in NORMAL mode in EBL512 G3 and EBL128 panels and in EBLOne panels from version 3.3 onwards, and its address (001–253) is set with the 4414 or 4414E address setting tool before connection.

Installation and compatibility

The detector is connected to an IS COM line, which is connected to the COM loop via IS isolator unit 2842 installed outside the hazardous area. Up to 20 IS detectors 2840 or 2841 can be connected to one isolator unit. The IS COM line is radial without a return conductor, its length can be up to 500 m, and it does not need an end-of-line resistor. The detector is mounted on the ceiling either on its own (IP22) or in the watertight mounting base 2843, giving an IP rating of IP66/67. The detector is intended to be tested, for example, with Solo or Testifire test equipment.
