Product description

Westermo ODW-730-F1 is a fibre modem designed for industrial use that transfers RS-422/485 serial communication over a fibre-optic link. The F1 model has one fibre port (SFP slot), so it is intended for point-to-point links. The type and length of the fibre link depend on the selected SFP module; with the modules in the series, links of up to 120 km or single-fibre (BiDi) links are possible.

Use in the EBL512 G3 ring network

In the technical description of the Panasonic EBL ring network, ODW-730-F1 is the recommended fibre modem when the RS-422 link between fire alarm control panels is implemented with single-mode fibre; the range is then up to 80 km depending on the module and fibre. According to the description, two ODW-730-F1 modems are needed per panel, even when only one of the networks uses single-mode fibre. The modems are connected to the terminals of network board 5040; on the board side, the cable is terminated with an RJ45 connector.

Technical features

The device supports both synchronous and asynchronous data transfer at 300 bit/s – 1.5 Mbit/s. Termination resistors are selected with switches, so separate resistors are not needed. The operating voltage of the redundant supply is 10–60 V DC or 20–30 V AC. A status relay indicates a network fault. The housing has an integrated DIN rail mount, and the device meets the EMC standards for residential and industrial environments as well as EN 50121-4 for railway applications. The SFP module is ordered separately, for example Westermo SLC20-DDM for single-mode fibre.
