Panasonic 4452W is a white conventional optical smoke detector connected to a conventional detection zone of the fire alarm control panel. The detector is particularly good at detecting large, light-coloured smoke particles, which are produced in a smouldering fire, for example. It is intended for dry indoor premises and can be used in EBL512 G3, EBL128 and EBL512 systems.

Smoke enters the detector chamber through an insect mesh and an optical labyrinth. The design improves smoke inflow and condenses steam and mist into moisture on the chamber surfaces, which reduces false alarms. An AI-based fire decision adjusts sensitivity and delay according to changes in smoke; the alarm threshold is 4%/m and the delay is normally 9 seconds. The detector automatically compensates for contamination so that sensitivity remains constant.

Installation

The detector is fitted in conventional mounting base 2324, whose LED lights up in an alarm. The detection zone and any external indicator are connected to the base, and an end-of-line device matching the control panel and zone input is connected to the last device in the zone. The detector is pressed into the base with the markings aligned and turned clockwise. The conductor size for the base is Ø 0.65–1.6 mm (0.3–2 mm²). Operation can be tested with, for example, Solo or Testifire test equipment.
