## Product description

Panasonic 2842 is an intrinsically safe (IS) isolator unit through which the 2840 addressable IS smoke detectors and 2841 IS heat detectors are connected to the COM loop of the fire alarm control panel. The isolator unit is installed outside the hazardous area, and an IS COM line runs from it into the Ex area. One or more isolator units can be connected to the same COM loop, together with other EBL system loop devices.

Up to 20 IS detectors can be connected to the IS COM line. The line is a simple radial cable without a return conductor or end-of-line resistor, and it can be up to 500 m long. The COM loop is isolated from the IS COM line by an optocoupler, and the unit’s 24 V supply is isolated from the IS line by a DC/DC converter that limits the power fed into the Ex area. The nominal voltage of the IS COM line is 16 V DC. The isolator unit requires no address or programming.

### Installation

The unit is wall-mounted outside the Ex area in a waterproof IP66/67 enclosure, supplied with five cable glands and four fixings. The connections are COM loop in and out, external 24 V DC supply (50 mA) in and out, and a blue IS COM terminal. A suitable IS COM cable is, for example, FKAR-PG 2 × 0.5 mm² (blue), and it must be routed separately from other cables.
