# Panasonic 2840 intrinsically safe addressable smoke detector

Addressable, intrinsically safe (IS) optical smoke detector for hazardous areas. Connected to the COM loop of a Panasonic fire alarm control panel via the 2842 IS isolator unit.

## Product description

Panasonic 2840 is an addressable, intrinsically safe optical smoke detector for hazardous (Ex) areas. It works like the Panasonic 4301 analogue optical smoke detector: the detector detects smoke by means of infrared light scattering. The detector is ATEX rated II 1 G Ex ia IIC T5 Ga and is suitable for zones 0, 1 and 2.

The alarm algorithm is selected in EBLWin from six options (H-15, N-15, L-15, H-35, N-35, L-35), which adapt the sensitivity (2.4–3.6% smoke density) and detection time (15 or 35 s) to the site. The default is N-15. According to the manufacturer, the L-15, H-35, N-35 and L-35 algorithms may not meet the requirements of EN 54-7. The detector’s indicator lights up in a fire alarm.

### Installation

The detector is mounted on the ceiling in the Ex area either on its own (IP22) or in the 2843 waterproof IS mounting box (IP44). It is connected to the IS COM line, which runs from the 2842 IS isolator unit installed in the safe area. Up to 20 IS detectors can be connected to one IS COM line, and the line can be up to 500 m long. The address (001–253) and NORMAL mode are set with the 4414/4414E address setting tool before connection. The detector is compatible with EBL512 G3, EBL128 and EBLOne control panels (version 3.3 onwards) and is configured as type 4301.
