# Panasonic 2820 ATEX galvanic isolator MTL5561

Two-channel galvanic isolator (MTL5561) for conventional fire and smoke detectors located in a hazardous area. The isolator is installed in the safe area.

## Product description

Panasonic 2820 is the Eaton MTL5561 galvanic isolator, intended for connecting conventional fire and smoke detectors when the detectors are located in a hazardous area. The isolator limits the energy fed into the Ex area and galvanically isolates the hazardous-area and safe-area circuits from each other. The isolator itself is installed in the safe area.

The device has two isolated channels that are loop-powered and require no separate supply. When a detector in the Ex area is activated, the current on the safe-area side changes accordingly and the fire alarm control panel detects the alarm. The detectors can be located in zone 0, gas group IIC (temperature classes T4–T6), provided that they are certified for this. The input is protected against reverse polarity.

The isolator has been assessed to the functional safety standard IEC 61508: as a single device it is suitable for SIL2 applications and, when connected redundantly, for SIL3 applications. Power dissipation is no more than 0.7 W per channel at 24 V with a 40 mA signal.
