# MX Power Box power supply unit

Power supply unit for MX series exit signs and emergency luminaires. MX Power Box supplies the 24 V operating voltage to up to four COM loops, so the luminaires do not load the fire alarm control panel.

## Product description

MX Power Box is a power supply module from Emex for MX series exit signs and emergency luminaires. The luminaires are connected to the COM loop of a Panasonic fire alarm system, but they receive their operating voltage from a separate line. The Power Box converts mains voltage into operating voltage lines for up to four COM loops, allowing a large number of luminaires to be connected to the loops without loading the control panel. The manufacturer recommends a maximum of 35–40 luminaires per operating voltage line.

The power supply unit consists of a rectifier and an interface board. Each loop has its own fuse holder (TR5 3.15 A) and green indicator light, and there are separate LEDs for the 24 V IN and TEST indications. Fault output J1 (CONTROL OUT) is connected to an input of I/O unit 4461/4462, so that the control panel reports a fault if the voltage is lost, a fuse blows or the supply to the power supply unit is interrupted. Via test input J2, the emergency luminaires can be switched on for testing with a relay of the I/O unit. The output voltage is adjustable; for long loops the recommended setting is approximately 31.5 V.

### Installation

The Power Box is mounted on the wall. The COM loops from the control panel are connected to the bottom row of the board and the loops going out to the luminaires to the top row (row A outgoing, row B returning). The power supply unit can also be used as an operating voltage line extender, in which case the fault output of each Power Box is connected to its own I/O input.
