# Aspirating smoke detection systems

An aspirating smoke detection system detects smoke in air drawn from the protected space. The air samples travel through a pipe network to the detector, where they are analysed. The solution may suit sites that need highly sensitive smoke detection or where conventional detectors are difficult to position.

## What kinds of sites is aspirating smoke detection suited to?

Aspirating detection can be used, for example, in industry, logistics premises, data centres and high-ceilinged spaces. When assessing the solution, the protected space, the conditions and the objectives set for smoke detection are taken into account.

The sensitivity and operation of the system are adapted to the site. Aspirating detection is not chosen on the basis of a single feature, but as part of a whole that must work in the real operating environment of the space.

## A new solution or supplementing the existing one?

Aspirating detection can be designed together with a new fire alarm system, or its suitability can be assessed alongside a system already in use. The existing equipment and the method of connection are determined before an implementation decision is made.

## SecuriSmoke ASD and Aspect detectors

Our range includes Securiton SecuriSmoke ASD aspirating smoke detectors and Panasonic Aspect Grizzle detectors. ASD detectors are available as single-pipe and multi-pipe models, from small monitoring areas to large spaces. The HD models are designed for very dusty areas. Aspect Grizzle connects directly to the loop of the EBL512 G3 fire alarm control panel without a separate I/O unit.

The detector model, the pipe network and the sampling holes are dimensioned in the design to suit the site. This is why the detector, the pipe network and the accessories are selected as a whole.

## Aspirating smoke detection at customer sites

At Best-Hall’s production hall in Kälviä, aspirating smoke detectors installed by PAP Group responded to a fire at an early stage, and the production stoppage was limited to two days. At Haapajärvi Church, the fire alarm system upgrade included a sampling pipe installed in the attic.
